On Wednesday 22nd February 2023, we partnered with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) alongside the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sterling One Foundation and Nigeria Türkiye Business Council Ltd/Gte to host an International Women’s Day Event – ‘Amplifying the sights and sounds of culture digitally: A focus on women in Creative Arts. Speakers included Abimbola Olufore, Head, ITPO Nigeria, Victoria Akai, DG of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of Sterling One foundation, and Igbuan Okaisabor, President of the NGCC Board.

Mr. Okaisabor reiterated NGCC’s commitment to supporting women, developing skills and connecting them with mentors to aid their career path. There were two high-level panel discussions aimed at improving gender equality efforts in Nigeria and a live painting by Afro-contemporary artist Princess Magret Nze.

The 1st-panel discussion, A Dialogue of Equality, Discrimination, and Dignity in the Creative Art Sector; Pushing the Boundaries of Traditional Practices included panellists: Kavita Chellaram, Founder, Arthouse Contemporary, Marcellina Akpojotor, Artist, Anthea Epelle, Artist, Nnam Ezekwesili, Executive Director, Connected Goals for Arts, Technology and Sustainable Development (CGATSD) and was successfully moderated by our DG Marilyn Rapu.The 2nd Panel discussion, Closing the Digital Gender Gap; Innovation, Creativity and the Gender Gap; Women as drivers of Innovation and Creativity included panelists: Keturah Ovio, Founder, Dukka, Anna Ekeledo, Executive Director, Afrilabs and Abimbola Olufore, Head, ITPO Nigeria.
